P7 - Mrs. A Ferguson
Welcome to Primary 7, our class teacher is Mrs Ferguson and our assistant is Miss Mc Grath.
We have 18 wonderful children in our class – 9 girls and 9 boys.
We are looking forward to the year ahead and we intend to make it a very memorable one as this is the girls' and boys' final year at St Oliver Plunkett P.S.
This is a very important year as the children prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation.
They will participate in liturgical celebrations and musical performances and the news of our 2 day residential in June sent so much excitement around the classroom.
In primary 7, we will experience a fun and creative curriculum in which we will build on our existing cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills.
This term, in Literacy, we will be focusing on persuasive writing. This will be demonstrated through debates, letter writing and advertisements/posters. Alongside side, this we will working on grammar, spelling and punctuation. This includes nouns: proper, common, pronouns, abstract and collective; verbs and imperative verbs; alliteration; direct and indirect speech and a selection of prefixes and suffixes.
Our class novel this term is called Wonder by RJ Palacio and our guided reading sessions will be based on this. Primary 7 pupils are also encouraged to read a book of their choice independently throughout the school day and a short book report will be completed at the end of each book.
Primary 7 pupils will continue to practise and improve on their handwriting skills.
This term, in Numeracy, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions. A daily problem will encourage the children to use the correct number operation to calculate an answer. Each pupil will continue to work on learning their times tables.
Our World Around Us topic is ‘Fair Enough’ and pupils will explore Fair Trade around the world. This topic will bring awareness to where our food and other products come from and the importance of the global fair trade standards.
Homework will be given daily alongside spellings and times tables. It is to be completed into the homework book and brought in daily to be marked.
Google classroom will be used as a platform to communicate messages to pupils about the week ahead and homework will be uploaded daily.
P.E. days are on a Wednesday and a Friday. Pupils can wear tracksuit bottoms and trainers on these days.
Swimming will resume after Christmas.
