P2 - Mrs. L Hughes

Welcome to our Primary 2b class page! 🍎✏️

A big welcome to primary 2 . Our teacher is Mrs Hughes and our classroom assistant is Mrs Stewart. There are 19 wonderful pupils in our class - 8 girls and 11 boys. We are settling very well into our new school routine, and we are looking forward to sharing all of our work and experiences with you.

This year is going to be a voyage of discovery for us. We are going to explore a variety of fun topics including People Who Help Us, Into the Woods, Christmas, Fairytales, The Farmyard and Travel/Holidays.

During our literacy lessons, we will be revising all initial sounds, as well as learning how to blend sounds together to create small rhyming words (CVC words). We will be re-telling our weekend news and learning how to write sentences independently with the help of our word mats and practical activities. We will continue to learn new keywords and read our weekly reading books set by our class teacher. We love story time and reading for pleasure in P2, and we can’t wait to listen to and read a range of exciting stories in the weeks and months ahead.

Numeracy will consist of revision of numbers to 10, proceeding on to numbers within 20, 50 and 100. We begin all of our numeracy lessons with mental maths practice, ICT games and counting songs. Our work will include both written and practical activities done individually and as part of a group. Our class will recall how numbers are written and will explore the different ways in which numbers can be created in our number stories. We will learn about shape, space, measure, data handling, time, money and addition and subtraction within 20.

Learning through play is an integral part of our curriculum in primary 2. Play helps us to develop our language, emotions, creativity and social skills. We have daily indoor play sessions as well as fun outdoor play activities when the weather permits.

Reminders:

It’s going to be such a fabulous year and we can’t wait to share it with you! 🤩
