ASC Unit - Mrs. A Hislop

Welcome to Mrs Hislop’s class! This class provides a specialist setting for learners with autism. Also working in this class is Mrs Johnston, the learning support assistant.

The ASC has a limited number of children ranging from P.1 to P.4. It provides a rich and varied curriculum, focusing on developing core life skills such as communication and social ability, sensory processing and emotional regulation. Within the class, each pupil is unique, and this is reflected in the planning, teaching and learning approaches. This ensures that all the pupils develop the essential capabilities they need to be as independent as possible and to reach their full learning potential.

This term the class topics are, Bears and People Who Help Us. The children will also be honing their recorder skills and learning French. When possible, the class will also be making use of our outdoor learning spaces. They love using the natural world to help embed and make sense of their learning. The class also visit Strathfoyle Library each Friday.

Home learning tasks are set using Seesaw and homework bags go home on Mondays and Wednesdays. This term there is a big focus on ‘tricky words’.
