Model School Primary School, Northland Rd, County Londonderry

P7 - Mrs. C Malone

This term in Primary Seven, we have lots of exciting learning ahead this term.  Our learning theme is “hunger” and we will be doing lots of cross curricular work around this.  In R.E. we will be linking this to bible stories and the life of Mother Teresa.  In English, we will be writing persuasive letters to the Ulster Wildlife Trust about the conservation of red squirrels in our area; creating persuasive leaflets about Halloween in Derry and writing to our M.P. about fox hunting.  We will  be presenting persuasive speeches to our local political representative to seek a change in the law about fox hunting in Northern Ireland.  We will also be using this as an opportunity to look at the values of democracy and the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.  As our theme is “hunger”, we will be learning about the Great Irish Famine and subsequent emigration.  The medium of art will allow us to examine this history from different perspectives.   We will be linking this theme to current global issues such as natural disasters, extreme weather and global environmental issues.  We are very excited to be planning lots of school visits to the local area to link into all our learning.
