P3 - Mrs. K McKinney

Welcome to primary 3 where the teacher is Mrs Kelly Mc Kinney

In primary 3, we concentrate on developing fluency in our reading. Parents can really help by modelling fluent reading every night for their children. Exposing them to lots of stories will help them become better readers more quickly. Try to engage with your child's reading every night, even at the weekend whenever possible.

In other areas of Literacy, we will encourage and develop our writing and talking and listening skills using various methods.

In numeracy, we continue with the new White Rose Maths online scheme. We access this in class every day and this year we are focussing on numbers within 100, with an emphasis on place value. We will focus on other areas such as addition & subtraction as well as length & height, shape, money and time.

Children practise Mental Maths daily and homework will often entail learning number facts to promote quick recall of these facts.

In the World Around Us, we will be learning about Them Bones and the human skeleton, as well as looking at dinosaurs. Alongside this topic we will also be looking at celebrations from home and around the world as well as minibeasts. All of our World Around Us topics enable the children to experience geography, history and science lessons all through the one topic.

In primary 3, weekly spellings will be available on Seesaw on a Monday evening in preparation for Friday spelling tests. Homework should be completed in Monthly Homework books from Monday to Thursday.

Reminders:

  • P.E. days – Wednesday & Thursday
  • Library day – Friday

Neuronimo is on online well-being course which the primary 3 class are following to promote positive thinking and good mental health. Accelerated Reading is also being used to enhance reading for meaning in our class.
