P1 - Mrs. K Mc Kinney

Welcome to our Primary 1 class! Our teacher is called Mrs Mc Kinney and our classroom assistant is called Mrs Downey. This year we have 25 children in our class and we look forward to a great year together.

Primary 1 focusses around ‘fun’ and practical activities, and opportunities for learning. We spend a lot of time, every day, talking and listening, being creative, exploring and playing together in a meaningful context.

In literacy we will share ‘Our News’ on a weekly basis and in phonics we will learn how to hear and form the initial sounds of the alphabet. We will also work very hard to learn as many keywords as we can and we will begin our reading journey too. Our parents can help us along by practising our sounds and keywords with us and by helping us to spot them in books and in the environment around us.

In Numeracy we will explore our numbers up to 10 with the help of ‘Number Zoo’. We will learn about money and count with pennies. We will investigate 2D & 3D shapes and have fun with different measures.

We are all friends together in primary 1 and we work really hard to learn routines and follow instructions. To help us do this and to make our class a safe, happy and caring place, we follow the Golden Rules – We listen well, we are always kind and gentle, we look after our property, we share and we are honest.

Reminders:

· Bring a healthy snack for break along with a bottle of water/milk.

· It is really important that we bring a coat with a hood every day and sensible footwear should be worn as we love to spend time playing and learning outdoors too.

· PE will be on a Friday. Trainers can be worn on this day.
