P6 - Ms. N Thompson

We are proud to have 18 fantastic pupils who strive to embody our school values and achieve their personal best.

I am Miss Thompson, and I am delighted to be supported this year by our wonderful classroom assistants, Mrs Duffy and Mrs Ward.

In Primary 6, pupils will take part in a variety of engaging learning experiences, both in groups and independently, all closely linked to the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Over the course of the year, they will strengthen key thinking skills and personal capabilities that will support their growth both in the classroom and in everyday life.

This term, our class novel is The Titanic Detective Agency. Pupils will take part in reading, writing, and comprehension activities linked to the story. We’ll also be exploring key areas of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, including synonyms and antonyms, verb tenses, and identifying different word types such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

In Numeracy, we’ll be working on Place Value, as well as Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. A strong emphasis will be placed on improving quick recall of times tables.
Our first topic is Unsinkable, which explores the Titanic’s maiden voyage and the events surrounding its tragic end.

Primary 6 will have two PE sessions each week. One of these will be swimming lessons on Tuesday afternoons, and the other will be a school-based PE session on Wednesday afternoons.

Each evening, pupils will be expected to complete tasks in Literacy, Numeracy, Spellings, Times Tables, and Reading. Homework should be returned daily for marking.

We’re looking forward to a busy, fun-filled, and rewarding year ahead!
